Ukrainian drones struck the Lukoil-Permnefteorgsintez (PNOS) oil refinery in Perm overnight on Friday. The facility is among Russia’s ten largest oil refineries.
Ukrainian monitoring channels published footage showing a fire at the refinery. Astra confirmed that PNOS, which processes more than 13 million tonnes of crude oil annually, was targeted. The refinery had previously been attacked on 21 August.
According to preliminary reports, a fire broke out at the refinery’s AVT-5 primary oil processing unit.
In Ulyanovsk, JSC NPP Zavod Iskra, part of the Almaz-Antey defence concern, was also targeted overnight.
The facility is a major defence enterprise producing semiconductor devices, microwave components and microelectronics used in missiles.
Ukrainian forces also struck the Novoshakhtinsk Oil Refinery in Russia’s Rostov region. The facility sustained damage and suspended operations exactly one month after its previous shutdown following another drone attack.
The Novoshakhtinsk refinery is the only oil refinery in the Rostov region and one of the largest in southern Russia. It has a total processing capacity of 5.6 million tonnes per year. Located around 100 kilometres from Rostov-on-Don, the refinery produces petrol, fuel oil, marine fuel, diesel and heating oil.
The Voronezh region was also attacked overnight. According to Supernova, an Ozon warehouse was among the targets. A fire following the initial attack was quickly extinguished, but further attacks reportedly continued into the morning.
Voronezhsintezkauchuk, a major petrochemical facility producing thermoplastic elastomers and synthetic rubber, was also reportedly targeted.
Astra noted that a combined heat and power plant is located near the facility, while less than two kilometres away there is elevated terrain hosting a Pantsir air defence system and, reportedly, positions for S-300/S-400 air defence systems.
