Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence has codified and approved the Ukrainian-made UAT.GYURZA-01 PICKUP for supply to the Armed Forces.
Designed for transporting personnel and cargo in combat zones, the new armoured pickup is based on the Dodge RAM 5500 platform and has been adapted to meet the requirements of Ukrainian military units.
The UAT.GYURZA-01 is produced by a Ukrainian defence company that has been manufacturing different classes of armoured vehicles for the Defence Forces for several years. Its vehicles have been in military use since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022.
The new pickup was developed with an emphasis on versatility, durability and ease of operation and maintenance. Following testing and confirmation of its declared specifications, it has now joined Ukraine’s growing range of domestically produced armoured vehicles.
The vehicle provides:
- Level 2 ballistic and fragmentation protection under STANAG 4569;
- Level 3a and 3b mine protection under STANAG 4569;
- a reinforced body structure;
- robust components designed for intensive use;
- conventional, civilian-style controls;
- access to widely available spare parts and consumables;
- off-road capability;
- substantial cargo capacity.
Weighing slightly more than eight tonnes, the UAT.GYURZA-01 can carry five fully equipped soldiers and almost two tonnes of cargo. Its maximum speed is 110 km/h.
The vehicle has a range of around 800 kilometres on unpaved roads and up to 1,000 kilometres on paved surfaces. Its design allows it to operate across difficult off-road terrain, including wetlands, dense vegetation and boggy ground.
For operations in combat conditions, the pickup is equipped with:
- an external surveillance system;
- a video observation system;
- an electronic protection system;
- fire suppression systems for the cabin and engine compartment;
- ventilation and air conditioning;
- a high-capacity winch.
Depending on operational requirements, additional equipment can include a semi-automatic tyre inflation system, extra fragmentation protection and a filtration and ventilation system.
The Ministry of Defence’s codification means the UAT.GYURZA-01 can now be officially procured and supplied to units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
