Large fires broke out in Odessa region overnight on October 9 following a massive Russian drone strike, hitting a port facility and leaving several people injured and thousands without power.
According to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service and Odesa Regional Military Administration head Oleh Kiper, the region came under a large-scale attack by strike drones, which caused multiple fires at infrastructure sites and in residential areas.
Kiper reported that most of the enemy targets were destroyed by air defense forces, but there was damage to civilian, port, and energy infrastructure.
“As a result of the attack, fires broke out in two private houses, an administrative building, a gas station, and on the territory of the port. Four more private houses were damaged,” Kiper said.
A large fire also erupted at a port infrastructure facility, where containers with civilian cargo— including vegetable oil and wooden fuel pellets — caught fire.
Preliminary reports indicate that five people were injured, all of whom are receiving necessary medical assistance.
More than 30,000 customers were left without electricity as a result of the attack.
