Ukraine's Security Service (SSU) has detained another alleged agent of Russia's military intelligence service (GRU) in Odessa, accusing him of helping direct Russian missile and drone strikes against Ukraine's Defense Forces in the port city.
According to the SSU, the suspect's primary task was to identify locations with the highest concentrations of Ukrainian troops and military equipment.
Investigators say he also attempted to locate radar stations, air defense missile systems, and mobile air defense fire groups.
To gather intelligence, the suspect allegedly walked around Odessa photographing military positions with his mobile phone. The SSU also says he documented the aftermath of Russian strikes to help Russian forces adjust follow-up attacks.
The suspect was detained while allegedly photographing the perimeter of a Ukrainian military facility.
According to investigators, the man is an unemployed resident of Odessa who was recruited by Russian intelligence services. The SSU says he was part of an espionage network operated by Serhii Lebedev, known by the alias "Lokhmatyi," who is based in occupied Donetsk and is alleged to cooperate with both Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) and the GRU.
During searches, officers reportedly seized computer equipment and a mobile phone containing photographs, videos, and geolocation data of potential targets.
He has been remanded in custody without bail and faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property if convicted.
