Canadian defence company 49North, part of the space corporation MDA Space, has signed a memorandum of cooperation with Ukrainian counter-drone technology manufacturer UNWAVE. The announcement was made by 49North.
The companies have agreed to cooperate in the production and maintenance of counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS).
The partnership will combine Ukrainian developments in counter-drone technology with Canadian expertise in defence systems integration, complex project management and long-term engineering support.
49North President Joe Armstrong noted that the continuous evolution of drone threats requires counter-drone systems to undergo regular upgrades and receive ongoing technical support.
“Keeping pace with evolving drone threats requires engineering, integration and sustained support to keep technology relevant. By leveraging UNWAVE’s counter-drone expertise and 49North’s defence capabilities, we see an opportunity to advance joint production and support systems that address Ukraine’s evolving needs. This partnership builds on our history of supporting Ukraine with Canadian technology and gives us a path to deepen that contribution, ” said Joe Armstrong, President, 49North.
“Our goal is to protect Ukrainian forces, key sites and critical infrastructure against constantly changing drone threats. This needs effective systems, sufficient production capacity and reliable technical support. Our partnership with 49North offers an opportunity to combine our counter-drone experience with Canadian engineering and production capabilities. We also bring extensive combat experience and battle-proven technology that can help our Canadian partners strengthen their own protection against these threats,” commented Taras Bublyk, CEO UNWAVE
