The radar surveillance system of Romania’s Ministry of National Defence detected a group of aerial targets near the river border with Ukraine on Thursday evening, prompting two F-16 fighter jets to be scrambled to monitor the situation.
"Two F-16 aircraft from the 86th Air Base in Borcea took off at 9:12 p.m. to monitor the situation," Romania’s Ministry of National Defence said on X.
In addition, the National Military Command Centre notified the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations that public warning measures were being introduced in Tulcea County, after which an RO-Alert message was sent to residents.
"We will provide further details as soon as they become available," the ministry said.
