As of May 12, farmers of all categories in Ukraine have sown 3,784 thousand hectares of spring grain and leguminous crops, which is 63% of the projected area. Over the past week, the sowing campaign expanded by almost 1.2 million hectares.
The largest area is traditionally occupied by corn — 2.4 million hectares have been sown so far. In addition, the following crops have been planted:
- spring wheat – 179.1 thousand hectares;
- spring barley – 704.2 thousand hectares;
- peas – 256.2 thousand hectares;
- oats – 136.5 thousand hectares;
- buckwheat – 7.6 thousand hectares;
- millet – 11.1 thousand hectares.
Buckwheat sowing has already begun in eight regions, with a total of 7.58 thousand hectares planted so far.
The highest sowing rates for grains and legumes are recorded in the Poltava, Kirovohrad, Vinnytsia, and Zhytomyr regions.
- Poltava region – 387.5 thousand hectares (wheat – 4.9 thousand ha, barley – 65.1 thousand ha, peas – 12.1 thousand ha, oats – 1.9 thousand ha, corn – 303.5 thousand ha);
- Kirovohrad region – 262.4 thousand hectares (wheat – 4.2 thousand ha, barley – 36.2 thousand ha, peas – 23.2 thousand ha, oats – 0.2 thousand ha, corn – 195.6 thousand ha);
- Vinnytsia region – 251.6 thousand hectares (wheat – 10 thousand ha, barley – 55 thousand ha, peas – 8 thousand ha, oats – 1 thousand ha, corn – 172.1 thousand ha, millet – 0.3 thousand ha);
- Zhytomyr region – 245.8 thousand hectares (wheat – 16.7 thousand ha, barley – 16.4 thousand ha, peas – 3.6 thousand ha, oats – 25.6 thousand ha, corn – 175.4 thousand ha, millet – 0.2 thousand ha).
Sowing of industrial crops is also ongoing. In total, 3,666.4 thousand hectares have been planted. In particular:
- sugar beet – 187.2 thousand hectares (95%);
- sunflower – 2,595.8 thousand hectares (52%);
- soybeans – 883.4 thousand hectares (43%).
