Ukraine's Security Service says it has uncovered another alleged agent of Russia's military intelligence service (GRU) within the Armed Forces of Ukraine, accusing the serviceman of helping direct Russian missile and drone strikes in the Poltava region.
According to the SSU, the suspect's primary task was to provide targeting information on local fuel stations. He was also instructed to gather intelligence on the locations and movements of Ukrainian military units in central Ukraine.
Investigators said the suspect was a mobilized serviceman assigned to the technical support platoon of a local military unit. He allegedly came to the attention of Russian intelligence after posting anti-Ukrainian comments in Telegram chats, after which he was recruited by the GRU.
The SSU said the serviceman used leave periods to photograph local fuel stations and transmit their locations to Russian handlers. Investigators also allege that he disclosed the location of his own military unit.
The suspect was detained at his place of service. During a search, officers reportedly seized a mobile phone containing evidence of his communications with Russian intelligence.
The SSU has charged the suspect with high treason committed under martial law under Article 111, Part 2 of Ukraine's Criminal Code.
If convicted, he faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
