A joint project with the United Nations on demining and support for local farmers is being launched in the Kherson region.
This was reported on the website of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities under the President of Ukraine.
It is noted that the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, Oleksandr Prokudin, held a meeting with representatives of the UN Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The parties discussed the launch of the first joint initiative in the region, focused on assisting with land demining and restoring the region’s agricultural potential. Due to constant shelling and the consequences of hostilities, the number of explosive hazards in the fields remains critical, requiring international technical support and clear coordination.

As part of the project, the Kherson Regional Municipal Emergency and Rescue Service (HOKARS) has already obtained the necessary license to carry out non-technical surveys. International organizations will provide operational support to this process by supplying specialized equipment and transport. Experts have already defined technical indicators and procedures for clearing farmland for safe future use.
It is reported that, in parallel with demining, a program of direct assistance to farmers will be launched. From April 20 to May 17, applications will be accepted through the State Agrarian Register from farmers in the Kalynivka, Borozenske, Velyko Oleksandrivka, and Vysokopillia communities. Following the selection, 110 farms with land holdings ranging from 3 to 300 hectares will receive professional assistance in land assessment and vouchers worth between $2,000 and $6,000. These funds are intended for the purchase of mineral fertilizers and seeds.
According to Prokudin, despite the danger and drought, farmers continue working in the fields to ensure food security for the region and the country. Therefore, the region is expanding cooperation with partners in this area.
