As of May 5, farmers across all categories of farms have sown more than two-fifths of the planned area for grain and leguminous crops. The highest sowing rates are being demonstrated by farms in the central and southern regions.
In total, 2,609.0 thousand hectares have been sown, or 43% of the forecast for grain and leguminous crops. This includes:
- Spring wheat — 177.9 thousand hectares
- Spring barley — 687.3 thousand hectares
- Peas — 252.6 thousand hectares
- Oats — 135.4 thousand hectares
- Corn — 1,346.7 thousand hectares
- Millet — 5.2 thousand hectares
In addition, farmers in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions have begun sowing buckwheat — 0.64 thousand hectares have been planted.
Leading regions:
Poltava region — 294.3 thousand hectares (wheat — 4.9 thousand ha, barley — 65.1 thousand ha, peas — 12.1 thousand ha, oats — 1.9 thousand ha, corn — 210.3 thousand ha).
Odessa region — 193.4 thousand hectares (wheat — 10 thousand ha, barley — 35 thousand ha, peas — 95 thousand ha, oats — 1.2 thousand ha, corn — 22.3 thousand ha, millet — 0.4 thousand ha).
Kyiv region — 183.8 thousand hectares (wheat — 25.6 thousand ha, barley — 39 thousand ha, peas — 5.5 thousand ha, oats — 6 thousand ha, corn — 107 thousand ha, millet — 0.6 thousand ha).
Sowing of industrial crops is also ongoing. In total, 2,066.8 thousand hectares have been planted. In particular, sugar beets have been sown on 182.9 thousand hectares (93% of the forecast), sunflower on 1,506.8 thousand hectares (30%), and soybeans on 377.1 thousand hectares (18%).
