The European Union recorded a €3.2 billion surplus in its agri-food trade balance in January, which is 4% more than in January 2025.
This is stated in a report by the European Commission.
Thus, EU agri-food exports in the first month of the year amounted to €17.5 billion (down 9% compared to December last year and down 8% compared to January 2025). Imports of agri-food products into the EU in January amounted to €14.4 billion (down 7% compared to December and down 11% compared to January 2025).
At the same time, shipments of agricultural products from Ukraine to the EU in January 2026 amounted to €906 million, which is 24% less than in January of the previous year. This is the second-largest rate of decline after Côte d’Ivoire, whose exports to the EU fell by 41%.
Ukraine, however, became the fourth-largest supplier of agricultural goods to the EU by value. The top three were Brazil (€1.36 billion, +14%), the United States (€1.16 billion, -14%), and the United Kingdom (€1 billion, -13%).
EU countries exported €332 million worth of agri-food products to Ukraine (+5%).
