Ukraine and the Republic of Bulgaria have agreed on the development of the “Vertical Gas Corridor,” whose capacity will reach about 10 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
This was reported by Minister of Energy Denys Shmyhal.
The relevant agreement was reached by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of Bulgaria Andrey Gyurov.
The “Vertical Corridor” will ensure access to diversified sources of natural gas supply for countries of the region, Shmyhal noted.
This will significantly expand the volumes of natural gas transportation and strengthen energy security in the region of Southeast Europe.
According to the Minister of Energy, after the completion of the project, the route’s capacity may reach about 10 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
This also opens additional opportunities for expanding cooperation in the field of gas supply and storage, in particular with the use of Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities.
At the same time, the Ministry of Energy continues active work on developing other promising directions for natural gas supply to Ukraine.
In particular, the Polish route provides access to LNG terminals in Poland, Lithuania, and Germany, as well as to Norwegian production resources via the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline.
“An agreement has been reached with Polish partners to increase gas import capacity to 6.7 billion cubic meters per year by the end of April this year. Negotiations on further expansion of this direction are ongoing,” Shmyhal noted.
