Ukraine's state-owned energy company Naftogaz requires approximately €400 million in additional financing to purchase natural gas ahead of the winter heating season, and Kyiv is counting on international support, First Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal said.
"Depending on the scenario, Naftogaz's additional financing requirement for gas imports amounts to €400 million," Shmyhal wrote on Telegram following a meeting with Ukraine's diplomatic corps.
He said the government is actively seeking international partners to help secure the necessary funding.
Shmyhal also announced that the Ministry of Energy will host the fifth ministerial meeting of the Energy Ramstein format in September to strengthen coordination among partners and broaden participation.
The minister added that Ukraine's Energy Support Fund currently faces an unfunded financing gap of more than €507 million, while an additional €600 million is needed to stabilize the country's electricity balancing market.
"We expect our diplomats to actively promote this assistance mechanism through the Energy Support Fund," Shmyhal said.
