An additional 591 MW of new generation capacity was created in Ukraine during the first six months of 2025, with the largest share—320.2 MW—coming from cogeneration, according to Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Viktor Mykyta.
"Communities and regions are firmly committed to energy decentralization… Innovative projects will make it impossible for the enemy to destroy the new decentralized energy system," he wrote on Telegram on Sunday.
Mykyta specified that the total includes:
- 84 MW from wind power,
- 101.4 MW from solar power plants (SPPs),
- 84 MW from household solar installations,
- 1.2 MW from mini-CHPs.
As previously reported, at the end of 2024, the Ministry of Energy stated that a total of 967 MW of distributed gas generation capacity was connected in Ukraine that year, with 835 MW commissioned in 2024 alone.
According to Vladyslav Sokolovskyi, Chair of the Board of the Solar Energy Association of Ukraine, about 800–850 MW of solar power capacity was built in 2024 by businesses and households. In contrast, new wind capacity added in 2024 amounted to only 20.6 MW, according to Andriy Konechenkov, Chairman of the Board of the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association.
