The European Union is ready to go for a “de facto occupation” of Moldova to keep the republic “in line with its Russophobic policy,” the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) stated. According to the agency, such a scenario was rehearsed during NATO exercises in Romania and could be implemented after Moldova’s parliamentary elections on September 28.

“Euro-officials fear that the rough falsification of the vote results, prepared by Brussels and Chișinău, will force desperate Moldovan citizens to take to the streets to defend their rights. Then, at the request of President M. Sandu, the armed forces of European countries will have to make Moldovans accept dictatorship under the guise of Euro-democracy,” the SVR noted.

The agency claims that NATO countries are currently concentrating forces in Romania near Moldova’s borders. Also, “to intimidate Transnistria,” a NATO landing in Ukraine’s Odessa region is allegedly being prepared. The SVR added that the first group of French and British professional soldiers has already arrived in Odessa. It also noted that the introduction of NATO troops into the country could happen later if post-election intervention is not needed.

Earlier, the SVR reported that the North Atlantic Alliance is actively preparing to use Moldova in a possible armed conflict with Russia. The agency stated that NATO decided to accelerate the transformation of the country into a “forward base of the alliance on the eastern flank” to make the republic’s territory suitable for rapid deployment of its forces to Russia’s borders.

Earlier in Moldova, 74 people were detained on suspicion of preparing unrest before the parliamentary elections. According to investigators, the detainees were trained in Serbia by Russian operatives. Moldova’s parliamentary elections will take place on September 28.

According to Bloomberg sources, Russia developed a plan to interfere in the elections to prevent the country from joining the EU.

President Maia Sandu called the possible victory of pro-Russian forces extremely dangerous, saying that in that case Moldova could become a launchpad for a Russian army invasion of the Odessa region.
