The European Commission is investing €7 million in the development and resilience of Ukrainian culture through the Creative Europe programme, which supports Ukrainian artists, organizations, and creative teams, according to Ukraine’s acting Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications, Tetiana Berezhna.
According to her Facebook post, the support will be directed to the following projects:
- “Resilience ZMINA” – supports Ukrainian artists and cultural organizations in creating and presenting their works (coordinator: IZOLYATSIA. Platform for Cultural Initiatives, Ukraine; partners: Malý Berlín, Slovakia, and Trans Europe Halles, Sweden).
- “Culture Promotes Solidarity” – aims to expand access for Ukrainians to culture and cultural heritage (coordinated by the European Cultural Foundation, Netherlands, in partnership with Ukrainian organizations “Insha Osvita” and “Veteranka,” and zusa, Germany).
- “Cultural Horizons” – creates opportunities for Ukrainians to engage with cultural life in Ukraine and abroad (initiated by the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation [UCF] in cooperation with Cultural Vistas GmbH, Germany).
- UAxEU (Ukrainian Cultural Exchange with the EU) – focuses on preparing the Ukrainian cultural sector for post-war recovery (coordinator: ELIA – European League of Institutes of the Arts, Netherlands; Ukrainian partners: Lviv National Academy of Arts, Coalition of Cultural Actors, and Ukrainian Museum Association; associated partner: State Agency of Ukraine for Arts and Arts Education; European partners: HKU and Culture Action Europe).
The UCF reported that the grant they won amounts to €2 million, which will fund a series of competitions in 2026–2027 to support debuts, cross-sector mobility, innovative cultural products, and artistic residencies.
As reported, in December 2024, Ukraine became a full participant in the EU’s Creative Europe programme.
The EU’s Creative Europe programme aims to support and strengthen the competitiveness of cultural, creative, and audiovisual sectors, promote cultural and linguistic diversity, and preserve the cultural heritage of European countries.
