The Military Counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) detained another FSB agent in Volyn. The suspect was tracking schedules and routes of Ukrzaliznytsia military freight trains, which the Russian forces planned to target with airstrikes in order to disrupt the Defense Forces’ logistics.
The investigation revealed that the hostile task was carried out by an unemployed Poltava resident recruited by the FSB. He came to the attention of Russian forces while looking for “easy earnings” on Telegram channels.
After being recruited, the agent traveled on a “mission” to Volyn region and settled in a rented apartment near a railway station.
He installed a phone camera with remote streaming on the windowsill of the temporary residence for Russian intelligence operatives.
This way, the FSB hoped to calculate the arrival times of moving train units to strike them accurately.
SSU military counterintelligence documented the Russian agent’s spy activity and arrested him.
During the search, authorities seized several smartphones that he used to communicate with the FSB and record train movements.
Additionally, the investigation documented the agent’s reconnaissance activities in Poltava, where he tracked the locations of mobile combat groups of the Defense Forces.
To conceal communications, the suspect and his FSB handler used prearranged code words and pictograms in an anonymous messenger chat.
The SSU investigators notified the detainee of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law).
The suspect is in custody and faces life imprisonment with property confiscation.
