At the beginning of February, Ukraine will experience frosts of up to -30°C.
This corresponds to a Level III danger – red alert, according to the State Emergency Service.
According to forecasts by the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, the sharp drop in temperature will occur between February 1–3.
“At night, except in Zakarpattia and the southern regions of the country, temperatures will drop to -20 to -27°C,” the forecast states.
Severe cold is expected in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Sumy, Poltava, and Kharkiv regions.
In Kyiv, temperatures will drop to -20 to -25°C at night, with daytime lows of -15 to -22°C.
These weather conditions may complicate the work of energy and utility services, affect the daily life of residents, and cause disruptions to road, rail, and electric transport.
On January 29, fog with visibility of 200–500 meters will persist in the capital and Kyiv region until the end of the day.
“A Level I danger (yellow) has been declared! Drivers and pedestrians – be attentive and careful,” warns the State Emergency Service.
