Russian attacks kill civilians and damage infrastructure across multiple Ukrainian regions

Russian forces continued large-scale attacks across several Ukrainian regions over the past day, using drones, artillery, guided aerial bombs, and multiple launch rocket systems. 

In Kyiv, the number of people injured in Russia’s massive attack on May 24 has risen to 87, including three children, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service. Two women were killed after a section of a five-storey residential building collapsed in the Shevchenkivskyi district.

Emergency crews reported damage to civilian and administrative infrastructure at 49 locations across the capital. Rescuers dismantled 165 square metres of damaged concrete structures, while canine teams searched more than 100 square metres of debris. Psychologists from the State Emergency Service provided assistance to 112 people. Recovery operations are ongoing.

In the Zaporizhzhia region, Russian troops carried out 753 strikes on 48 settlements, according to regional governor Ivan Fedorov. Three people were injured in the Zaporizhzhia district.

The attacks included 28 airstrikes and more than 500 drones, most of them FPV-type UAVs, targeting cities and villages across the region, including Zaporizhzhia, Huliaipole, Orikhiv, and Stepnohirsk. Russian forces also launched artillery and MLRS attacks. Authorities received 21 reports of damage to residential buildings, infrastructure, and vehicles.

In the Donetsk region, Russian attacks killed one civilian and injured 14 others on May 24, regional governor Vadym Filashkin said. One person was killed and 13 injured in Druzhkivka, while another civilian was wounded in the village of Maiaky.

According to regional authorities, at least 4,078 civilians have been killed and 9,495 injured in the Donetsk region since the start of the full-scale invasion, excluding casualties in occupied Mariupol and Volnovakha.

In the Kharkiv region, Russian strikes targeted Kharkiv city and 21 other settlements, injuring 18 people, including a five-year-old girl, regional governor Oleh Syniehubov reported.

Seventeen civilians were injured in Bohodukhiv, while another man was wounded in the village of Petrivka. Russian forces attacked the Kyivskyi district of Kharkiv with drones and launched dozens of UAVs of various types across the region.

Residential buildings, garages, warehouses, agricultural facilities, vehicles, power lines, a grain elevator, and a local club were damaged in multiple districts, including Bohodukhiv, Kupiansk, Izium, Kharkiv, and Chuhuiv districts.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, Russian troops attacked three districts overnight with drones and artillery, regional governor Oleksandr Hanza said. A 35-year-old man was injured in the Nikopol district and hospitalized in moderate condition after strikes on Nikopol and surrounding communities. Residential buildings and structures were damaged.

Fires also broke out in Apostolove in the Kryvyi Rih district, where vehicles and infrastructure facilities were damaged. In the Synelnykove district, a house was damaged in the Mezhova community.

In the Sumy region, Russian attacks targeted 49 settlements across five districts. According to regional police, one person was killed and four others were injured.

A 24-year-old man died in the Krasnopillia community after a Russian drone struck a vehicle. Other civilians were injured in separate drone attacks in the Hlukhiv, Mykolaivka, Seredyna-Buda, and Vorozhba communities. Authorities also reported destruction and fires in several settlements. Apartment buildings, private homes, warehouses, vehicles, and infrastructure facilities were damaged.

In the Kherson region, two people were killed and 16 others injured during Russian attacks over the past day, regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin said.

Russian forces shelled dozens of settlements with drones, artillery, and airstrikes, including Kherson, Antonivka, Beryslav, Stanislav, and Bilozerka. Three apartment buildings, six private houses, a shop, and several vehicles were damaged.

Meanwhile, Russian drones attacked the city of Chernihiv overnight on May 25. According to the city council, explosions were heard during an air raid alert, and a private house caught fire. Dry grass also ignited in another area of the city.
