Tensions along the front line reached peak levels in the last month of spring. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 7,008 combat engagements were recorded in May, indicating an increase in the intensity of Russia operations.

The most intense day of the month was May 26, when 317 combat clashes took place in a single day.

At the same time, the Russian forces continued heavy shelling along the entire line of contact and against civilian cities. In total, over 96,000 shelling incidents were recorded in May, including more than 1,800 strikes from multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS).

Failing to achieve significant success on the ground and facing strong resistance from Ukrainian Defense Forces, Russian troops have increasingly relied on aerial terror. During the month, the Russian forces used 7,500 aerial bombs equipped with universal planning and correction modules (guided aerial bombs, GABs).

According to the General Staff, this is the second-highest monthly number of GABs since the start of the full-scale invasion. The highest was recorded in March, with 7,987.

According to the Ministry of Defence, there were 5,085 combat engagements on the front line in April, and nearly 7,000 guided aerial bombs were used against Ukrainian positions.

It is also noted that Ukraine expects to receive the first batch of Swedish JAS 39 Gripen fighter jets along with long-range Meteor air-to-air missiles within the next 10 months. This would significantly enhance the Air Force’s ability to counter Russian aviation and guided aerial bombs.
