For almost 2.5 years, the ultra-left internet portal Red operated from Berlin, supporting terrorist groups and opposing Israel. Authorities in Germany, the USA, and the EU stated that Russia provided financial and personnel support to it.
This was reported by DW.
The German authorities said that the ultra-left portal Red, which supported Islamist groups and sharply opposed Israel, was financially and personnel-wise aided by the Russian media holding Russia Today (RT).
The portal announced its closure back in May but continues to operate on social networks X and Telegram.
It is noted that the USA warned German authorities about the portal’s ties to Kremlin media as early as autumn 2024. In May 2025, the EU also made a similar statement. Analysis by German intelligence confirmed the information provided by the Americans.
According to Germany’s foreign ministry, Red’s goal was to divide German society.
“Russia uses platforms like Red to weaken social cohesion in Germany and Europe,” the Foreign Ministry stated.
The ministry announced that, together with the EU, sanctions would be imposed on those “behind Red,” including freezing bank accounts of several individuals connected to the channel and banning their entry into the country.
The Foreign Ministry claims that:
“Red is closely linked in personnel and financially with the Russian state media and propaganda tool RT.”
Red emerged in January 2023 and quickly gained hundreds of thousands of subscribers on social media.
It published mostly English-language exclusive interviews with representatives of Hamas, Hezbollah, and other groups they called the “axis of resistance.”
