Nearly three dozen vehicles, including 20 ambulances, are on their way to Ukraine to support the medical units of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. In the near future, they will strengthen the capacity of border guard medics to evacuate the wounded, provide emergency care, and deliver medical support to service members operating within the Defense Forces of Ukraine.
Before the departure of the humanitarian convoy, the vehicles were blessed by Pope Leo XIV. This symbolic gesture was presented as a sign of support for the Ukrainian people and their defenders, who have been resisting Russia’s full-scale aggression for five years.
The transport and humanitarian aid for Ukrainian border guards were collected by the “Santa Clara” Monastery Foundation, led by Sister Lucia Karam Padia. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the foundation has been a reliable partner of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and has provided systematic support to Ukrainian soldiers.
Over the years of the war, Sister Lucia Karam has repeatedly visited Ukraine. During her trips, she met with Ukrainian border guards, visited wounded soldiers in military hospitals, supported families of servicemen, and also visited the burial sites of fallen Ukrainian heroes. Together with clergy and relatives of the deceased, she prayed for peace in Ukraine, for the recovery of the wounded, and for the souls of those who gave their lives for the country’s freedom and independence.
In addition to humanitarian activities, the foundation actively works to communicate the reality of the war in Ukraine to the international community. Through Sister Lucia Karam’s efforts, the issue of supporting Ukraine is regularly raised among the public in EU countries, the Spanish-speaking world, and various Christian communities.
Throughout its cooperation, the foundation has contributed to the treatment and rehabilitation of wounded border guards, organized medical care and recreation for the children of service members, and delivered humanitarian supplies, medical equipment, and vehicles essential for life-saving missions.
This latest shipment of ambulances and specialized vehicles will further strengthen the medical units of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, which save lives daily both on the front line and during evacuation and treatment of the wounded.
The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine expressed its sincere gratitude to the “Santa Clara” Monastery Foundation, Sister Lucia Karam Padia, all benefactors, and international partners for their continued support and solidarity with Ukraine in its struggle for freedom, independence, and peace.
