An open-air exhibition titled “Treasures of Ukrainian Museums” (Trésors des musées d’Ukraine) is on display until March 19 in front of the Hôtel de Ville de Paris, as part of the artistic season “Voyage en Ukraine” — the Season of Ukraine in France.

Set in the heart of Paris, the exhibition offers residents and visitors a rare opportunity to discover masterpieces from the collections of leading Ukrainian museums. Among them are the National Art Museum of Ukraine, the National Museum of Taras Shevchenko, the Andrey Sheptytsky National Museum, as well as fine arts museums in Kharkiv, Odessa, and Dnipro. Works from the Zakarpattia Regional Art Museum named after Yosyp Bokshai are also featured.

The exhibition focuses primarily on the 19th and 20th centuries — a period of intense cultural development, the formation of modern Ukrainian identity, and creative emancipation. Selected medieval and Baroque works complement the display, highlighting the depth and continuity of Ukraine’s artistic tradition across centuries.

The project carries particular significance at a time when Russia continues to destroy Ukraine’s cultural heritage. Ukraine is home to approximately 5,000 museums. As of the end of 2025, 133 museums and galleries had been destroyed or severely damaged, and more than 480,000 art objects had been looted.

Against this backdrop, the Paris exhibition is not only an introduction to Ukrainian art but also a call to protect it. Organizers emphasize that maintaining the visibility of Ukrainian culture and ensuring its presence within the shared European cultural space is especially important during wartime.

The exhibition was organized with the support and co-organization of the Ville de Paris, whose team played a key role in bringing the project to the French capital.
