The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, together with the Brave1 cluster, is introducing a new approach to air defense — remote control of interceptor drones over long distances.
The technology has already proven effective in combat conditions: aerial targets have been shot down at distances of hundreds and even thousands of kilometers.
The development of this technology was initiated a year ago through the Brave1 cluster. Since then, the solution has gone through testing and scaling phases and is now being applied in practice.
Ukraine is the first country in the world to systematically implement remote control of interceptor drones, setting a new standard in the field of air defense.
“The pilot is no longer tied to a position. The drone is in the sky — control is carried out from a secure environment in Kyiv, Lviv, or even abroad. This increases interception efficiency, minimizes risks for operators, and allows capabilities to be scaled without being tied to the front line,” said Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov.
The new approach allows to:
- increase the effectiveness of intercepting aerial targets;
- minimize risks for operators;
- scale capabilities without being tied to the front line.
More than 10 Ukrainian manufacturers have already integrated the technology into their systems.
The development of remote drone control is part of a systematic approach to strengthening multi-layered air defense. Following the directive of the President of Ukraine, work continues on innovative solutions to protect the sky, including achieving goals of 100% detection of aerial threats and at least 95% neutralization.
