Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration and Minister for Communities and Territories Development, Oleksiy Kuleba, as part of a government delegation led by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, made a working visit to Romania.

During a meeting between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Romanian President Nicolae Ciucă, the two sides discussed the development of border infrastructure and the implementation of joint transport projects between Ukraine and Romania.

Key priorities include the opening of a new checkpoint, Bila Tserkva – Sighetu Marmației, which is expected to begin operations for passenger vehicles by summer 2026. Once the first phase is completed, its capacity will reach up to 700 vehicles per day.

The parties also focused on the reconstruction of the Porubne – Siret checkpoint. This project will increase the Ukrainian-Romanian border’s capacity by 300 trucks daily.

Another significant infrastructure project discussed is the construction of a bridge over the Danube between Orlivka and Isaccea, which could become an important transport corridor between Ukraine and the European Union, strengthening regional logistics capacity.

Additional discussions covered expanding the network of border checkpoints, implementing joint customs and border control, and developing new transport routes, including rail connections.

The implementation of these projects is expected to reduce border crossing times, increase the Ukrainian-Romanian border’s throughput, and strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.
