A large-scale exhibition titled “Ukraine: The Tragedy of a People, a Wound for Europe” has opened at the historic Castello Aragonese in the city of Otranto. Through the lenses of professional photographers, it presents the realities of Ukrainian life following the start of the full-scale Russian invasion.

This was reported by the Embassy of Ukraine in Italy on Facebook.

The exhibition was organized with the support of the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP). The opening ceremony was attended by Otranto Mayor Francesco Bruni, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Ukraine Oksana Amdzhadin, and Vice-President of the European Commission Raffaele Fitto.

According to Oksana Amdzhadin, the main goal of the project is not only to document the crimes of the aggressor, but also to remind the world of the beauty of Ukraine that the enemy is trying to destroy.

“For us, it is important to maintain attention on Ukraine. This exhibition shows not only the tragedy and brutality of the war, but also demonstrates how beautiful our homeland was and remains,” the diplomat emphasized.

In his speech, Mayor Francesco Bruni stressed that supporting Ukraine is not a matter of strategy, but a moral obligation of Europe toward a people defending shared values.

“The dramatic images presented to visitors of Otranto Castle are, above all, a call to us Europeans to view support for the Ukrainian people not as a tool of economic or defense strategy to expand influence, but as a necessary obligation to a nation that in recent years has demonstrated a sincere desire to share the values underlying the European Union,” he said.

The exhibition at Castello Aragonese will run until June 28. It is an important act of solidarity, allowing residents and visitors of Italy to better understand the scale of Ukraine’s tragedy and the resilience of its people.
