Employees of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) and the National Police detained an agent of the Russian special services who carried out a terrorist attack in Odessa on the morning of July 5.

According to case materials, the Russian forces’ accomplice was a previously convicted 22-year-old resident of Zaporizhzhia. He was recruited via Telegram channels.

The investigation established that, following instructions from the Russian special service, the agent planted a pre-prepared improvised explosive device (IED) under a vehicle specified by his handler.

To provide a live video broadcast of the explosion, the suspect installed a phone with remote access for the Russian forces opposite the planned attack site.

As a result of the explosion, a civilian man was injured, suffering serious bodily harm, and the vehicle under which the IED was placed was completely destroyed.

After the explosion, the agent tried to leave the Odessa region, hoping to “lay low.”

However, SSU and National Police officers tracked him down and detained him “on the spot.”

SSU investigators have notified the suspect of suspicion under Part 2, Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (terrorist act).

The Russian forces agent faces up to 12 years in prison.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Comprehensive measures are being taken to establish all circumstances of the crime.
