Russia announces temporary ceasefire over May 8–10

Russia’s Ministry of Defense announced the alleged introduction of a ceasefire regime from 00:00 on May 8 to May 10.

This was reported by BBC, citing the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The ministry of the aggressor state claims that, in implementation of a decision by Russian leader Vladimir Putin, Russian troops will “fully cease combat actions” on the front line, as well as missile and drone strikes on the territory of Ukraine.

At the same time, these statements are accompanied by renewed blackmail: the Kremlin threatens to carry out a massive strike on Kyiv if Ukraine allegedly “disrupts the parade in Moscow.”

Russia also again called on foreign diplomats and the civilian population to evacuate the capital.

In his evening address, Volodymyr Zelensky once again commented on the issue of a ceasefire for the Victory Day celebrations announced by the Russian authorities.

The Ukrainian president reminded that Kyiv had proposed establishing a ceasefire starting from May 6, but Russia ignored it and continued to strike Ukrainian cities and Ukrainian forces at the front.

“They want Ukraine to allow them to hold their parade so they can safely walk onto the square for an hour once a year, and then continue killing our people and waging war. We have received requests from some states close to Russia that their representatives plan to be in Moscow. A strange desire… in these days. We do not recommend it,” Zelensky added.

At the same time, he reiterated:

“Ukraine’s position is as transparent and honest as possible: Ukraine will act in a mirror response. If there had been silence, there would have been no Ukrainian long-range sanctions.”
