Starting from 2026, Lithuania will allocate over 5% of its GDP to defense. This announcement was made by Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda during the Three Seas Initiative summit in Warsaw.

"Starting next year, Lithuania will allocate more than 5% of its GDP to defense. Together with most of the Three Seas countries, which represent NATO's eastern flank, we expect significant increases in defense spending," said Nausėda.

Until now, Lithuania has spent about 3% of its GDP on defense.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, Lithuania and Estonia became the first NATO countries to commit to spending more than 5% of their GDP on defense in order to enhance military capabilities following statements by U.S. President Donald Trump. The 10th anniversary Three Seas Initiative summit is currently taking place in Warsaw on April 28-29, with high-level delegations from over 20 countries participating.
