Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys said Lithuania does not rule out seeking compensation for damage caused to its embassy in Kyiv by Russian attacks.
Speaking to Delfi, Budrys said the extent of the damage has yet to be assessed by experts.
"Lithuania is actively working to establish international legal mechanisms that would make it possible to assess, document, and recover compensation for damage caused in Ukraine. A Register of Damage has already been created, and a Claims Commission has now been established, to which Lithuania is also contributing. There is an opportunity to seek compensation for damaged property," Budrys told reporters at the Lithuanian parliament.
He said it remains unclear how compensation claims involving diplomatic property will be handled.
"However, the principle is perfectly clear: whether it is a broken window, a damaged roof, or any other property damage, nothing should go unrecorded. Compensation must ultimately be recovered for all of it," the minister said.
Budrys recalled that Lithuania's embassy in Kyiv was damaged during a Russian missile attack overnight on Saturday. The blast from missile strikes near the diplomatic mission shattered a window in the embassy building and damaged its rooftop solar panels.
