On Thursday, May 7, the government of New Zealand imposed new sanctions on 20 Russian individuals and entities for their support of Russia’s illegal war of aggression against Ukraine.
This was stated in a press release by New Zealand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Peters.
The statement notes that the latest sanctions package covers 20 individuals and entities. Among them are actors supporting the Kremlin’s hybrid tactics, facilitating Russian cybercrime that sustains the war, and spreading anti-Ukrainian propaganda aimed at legitimizing Moscow’s illegal aggression.
“Those who mis-use online platforms to support Russia’s war against Ukraine will face real consequences, including sanctions,” Peters said.
New Zealand is also imposing sanctions on an alternative payment service provider whose services are widely used to circumvent sanctions against Russia.
“We are targeting the payment infrastructure that has helped enable Russia’s war against Ukraine,” Peters stated.
The sanctions announced today also target those contributing to Russia’s military-industrial complex, as well as entities from North Korea and Iran that are providing support to Russian military efforts.
