7,058 North Korean military personnel have been killed or wounded in Russia’s war against Ukraine, according to the Secretary of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, Brigadier General Dmytro Usov.
Usov presented the relevant data at an event during the presentation of the report “Foreign Fighters in the Russian Army: How to Stop the Global Recruitment Scheme” on Wednesday.
The military presence of North Korea in Russia’s war against Ukraine totals 14,061 personnel (9,500 currently deployed). The total combat losses amount to 7,058 individuals, of whom 2,251 were killed in action and 4,807 were wounded.
Earlier in February, the South Korean news agency Yonhap reported that 6,000 North Korean soldiers had been killed or wounded in Russia’s war against Ukraine.
South Korea’s intelligence service stated that around 11,000 North Korean troops are currently fighting on Moscow’s side in the frontline Kursk region. Of these, 10,000 are regular troops and 1,000 are engineering units.
About 1,100 soldiers who had already been deployed and returned in December 2025 are expected to be sent back again to fight against Ukraine.
