Russian authorities are planning to send miners from closed mines in the occupied part of Luhansk region to the front.
This was reported by the Luhansk Regional State Administration on Facebook.
“Russia plans to throw miners from closed mines in occupied Luhansk region into the war. To this end, the Russian Federation intends to increase conscription targets at the expense of residents of the so-called ‘LPR.’ The process of shutting down coal mining enterprises is currently underway there, in particular in Dovzhansk. Laid-off miners are a priority,” the statement said.
Earlier, it was reported that workers at mines in the occupied part of Donbas have complained about the closure of enterprises, reduced coal production, and unpaid wages.
According to the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD), the coal industry in the occupied territories has been steadily declining since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Coal mining in Russia itself has fallen into a deep crisis due to sanctions and the loss of sales markets, and the Kremlin never planned to spend resources on supporting miners in occupied Donbas.
