Luxembourg supports any legally justified steps aimed at using frozen Russian assets to assist Ukraine.
This was stated by Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Luc Frieden ahead of the European Council meeting in Brussels.
"My country will support any measures that allow for a legally justified solution to make more Russian funds available to support Ukraine," said the Prime Minister.
He added that Luxembourg positively perceives the idea of a “reparations loan” for Ukraine.
"We must ensure that this is legally justified. But I believe there is some progress in that there will not be an outright confiscation of these assets, as from a legal standpoint this would not work," said Frieden.
He also expressed his conviction that Europe must take a proactive position in supporting Ukraine.
"We must also convey to our American friends that when we talk about Ukraine, we are talking about Europe. This is our continent, and we must sit at the same table with them to find a solution for establishing lasting peace," emphasized Luxembourg’s Prime Minister.
