Lithuania is currently implementing six reconstruction projects in Ukraine, including the construction of shelters in border regions and assistance to the energy sector.

This was announced by Ukraine’s Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko during a joint briefing with Lithuania’s Prime Minister Inga Rugynienė.

“An important component of comprehensive support is the aspect related to Ukraine’s recovery. We support Lithuania’s approach — to rebuild without waiting for the end of the war,” Svyrydenko stated.

She noted that ten projects have already been completed, while another six are in progress.

According to her, Lithuania’s contribution to building shelters for schools in six Ukrainian regions bordering the combat zone is particularly valuable.

“Also significant in this context is the work of Lithuania’s Central Project Management Agency, which recently opened its first foreign office in Kyiv. The agency oversees all reconstruction projects, including those within the Civil Protection Shelter Coalition, which Lithuania has joined,” the Prime Minister added.

Svyrydenko also expressed gratitude to Lithuania for its consistent partnership in restoring Ukraine’s energy sector:

“For us, this is especially important in a situation where the enemy strikes our energy infrastructure every day.”

“The total amount of Lithuania’s aid exceeds €83 million, with 21% of all equipment for the Emergency Energy Assistance Hub provided by Lithuania. Equipment from Vilnius CHP-3 and the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant has been used to restore Ukrainian thermal power plants. We highly value this support and see great opportunities for further expanding and strengthening cooperation in the energy sector,” Svyrydenko emphasized.

During the meeting, the sides also discussed the ‘Create Ukraine’ project — an initiative aimed at encouraging Ukrainians currently abroad to return and work in the public sector.

“This initiative has helped us attract Ukrainians who had been living abroad. They have now all stayed in Ukraine and are working in the public sector,” added the Ukrainian Prime Minister.
