Kharkiv region gas facility hit in drone and missile attack

Kharkiv region gas facility hit in drone and missile attack

On the night of June 2, Russians attacked one of the key gas infrastructure facilities in Kharkiv region, first with drones and then with missiles.

“During the night-time attack, the enemy employed combined tactics. The facility was first targeted by drones. About an hour later, Russian forces launched a second strike — this time with missiles,” the statement of Naftogaz says.

It is noted that emergency services are working at the site, and the extent of the damage is being clarified. There are no casualties.

“This is how Russians are attempting to inflict maximum damage not only on infrastructure, but also on the people who are rescuing, repairing and rebuilding. It was precisely this tactic that led to the tragic events on the night of 5 May, when our colleagues and State Emergency Service rescuers lost their lives,” commented Serhii Koretskyi, CEO of Naftogaz of Ukraine.

Naftogaz Group revised its security procedures and strengthened its response protocols for dealing with the aftermath of attacks. This helps minimise risks for personnel working at critical infrastructure facilities.

Adjusting to these realities, we have introduced stricter safety protocols to minimise risks to our staff. I'm grateful to my colleagues for ensuring that the lessons were learned and that, this time, there were no casualties. Damage assessment and restoration work will begin as soon as the security situation allows,” added Sergii Koretskyi.
