The government has approved the launch of a pilot project that will give international partners access to training AI models for unmanned systems based on real battlefield data.

This was reported by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yulia Svyrydenko.

“Arms manufacturers will gain access to a special AI platform developed by the Ministry of Defense that will allow them to safely and effectively train models without access to sensitive databases. This will help accelerate the development of autonomous systems and the introduction of new technological solutions for the front,” the statement said.

The head of government emphasized that this represents a new format of cooperation between the state, Ukrainian arms manufacturers, and international partners.

According to her, Ukraine today possesses a unique body of battlefield data that exists nowhere else in the world. That is why companies have a strong demand for such data to develop defense technologies. At the same time, for Ukraine’s Defense Forces this means even greater technological capabilities to more effectively detect and strike the enemy on the battlefield.

For his part, Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov said that Ukraine is the first country in the world to grant partners access to train artificial intelligence models for unmanned systems using real battlefield data.

Fedorov said that a special AI platform has been created at the Innovation and Defense Technology Development Center of the Ministry of Defense. It allows models to be trained securely without direct access to sensitive databases, enables work with large volumes of labeled photo and video materials, and uses constantly updated data.

“The future of warfare lies in autonomous systems. Our task is to increase the level of autonomy of drones and other combat systems so that they can detect targets faster, analyze the situation, and help make decisions on the battlefield. The key to this is high-quality data for training neural networks,” the minister stressed.

He noted that Ukraine has a unique body of battlefield data, including millions of annotated frames collected during tens of thousands of combat flights. These data are already used to train neural networks that automatically detect ground and aerial targets in the DELTA battlefield management system.

At the same time, international partners and Ukrainian companies have a strong demand for precisely this type of data to develop and modernize defense technologies.

“For us, this is the next step in developing win-win cooperation. Partners gain the opportunity to train their AI models on real data from modern warfare. And Ukraine receives faster development of autonomous systems and new technological solutions for the front,” Fedorov emphasized.

He added:

“We are ready to work with partners on joint analytics, model training, and the creation of new technological solutions.”
