Ukrainian drones reportedly struck the Syzran Oil Refinery in Russia's Samara region on the morning of August 4, marking another attack on the facility after it was previously targeted in mid-July, according to the monitoring channels Supernova and Exilenova+.
The channels reported that a fire broke out at the refinery following the strike. Russian authorities have not officially confirmed the attack, and the Samara region was not mentioned in the Russian Defense Ministry's morning briefing, although a drone alert had been issued overnight.
The Syzran refinery, owned by Rosneft, is one of the largest oil processing facilities in the Samara region. Built following a 1939 government decision, it is among Russia's oldest operating refineries.
Located on the Volga River more than 800 kilometers from the Ukrainian border, the plant forms part of the Samara refining hub together with the Kuibyshev and Novokuibyshev refineries.
The refinery has a nominal processing capacity of up to 8.9 million tonnes of crude oil per year. It produces gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, and aviation kerosene, supplying both Russia's military and civilian markets.
The facility has been repeatedly targeted by Ukrainian long-range drones. Previous attacks were reported in December 2025 and in March, April, July, and now August 2026.
Following a strike on July 12, the refinery suspended processing after one of its production units was damaged.
Earlier, on May 21, a Ukrainian drone reportedly hit the CDU-6 crude distillation unit, which accounts for more than 70% of the refinery's processing capacity. Operations remained disrupted for more than a month while the unit was repaired.
Separately, drones also reportedly targeted a 77,000-square-meter Wildberries warehouse in Russia's Tver region. The facility, which opened in December 2025, suspended operations and evacuated staff following the attack. Ukrainian monitoring channels also reported drone strikes on Wildberries logistics centers in Chekhov, near Moscow, and Krasny Bor in the Leningrad region.
