EU targets pro-Kremlin media network and foundation in new sanctions package

The EU Council has imposed sanctions on two additional organizations involved in Russia’s hybrid operations, including propaganda and the spread of disinformation.

This was reported on the website of the Council of Europe.

In particular, the media platform Euromore has been added to the sanctions list. It is part of a pro-Kremlin information network. According to the EU’s assessment, Euromore disseminates and amplifies Russian narratives, adapting them for a European audience, and also spreads content that questions the legitimacy of EU institutions and justifies Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Restrictive measures have also been introduced against the Russian Pravfond — the Foundation for the Support and Protection of the Rights of Compatriots Living Abroad. Its materials are systematically used to promote Kremlin disinformation, including narratives about the “nazification” of Ukraine, “Russophobia,” and alleged “systematic persecution of Russian-speaking populations in neighboring countries.”

“Through their activities the designated entities are responsible for supporting the actions and policies of the Russian government, which undermine democracy, the rule of law, stability, and security in the European Union and Ukraine,” the EU Council stated.

Overall, sanctions for involvement in Russia’s destabilizing activities have been imposed on 69 individuals and 19 organizations. Their assets have been frozen, and EU citizens and companies are prohibited from providing them with funds or economic resources.
