Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina has won the prestigious WTA 1000 Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, claiming one of the biggest titles of her career after a dramatic three-set victory over world No. 4 Coco Gauff.

The top-ranked Ukrainian and world No. 10 Svitolina battled for nearly three hours before sealing a 6–4, 6–7 (3–7), 6–2 win in the final of the clay-court tournament, which carries a prize pool of more than €8.2 million. The victory earns her over €1 million in prize money and 1,000 WTA ranking points.

This is Svitolina’s third Rome title, after previous triumphs in 2017 and 2018. It also marks the 20th WTA title of her career, underlining her long-standing consistency at the top level of women’s tennis.

The win in Rome also brought Svitolina into the record books. At 31 years and 235 days old, she became the oldest player in WTA history to defeat three top-5 opponents at a single tournament.

She surpassed a record previously held by Serena Williams, who achieved the feat at the 2013 Miami Open at the age of 31 years and 173 days. The all-time list of oldest players to beat three top-5 opponents at one WTA event also includes legends such as Mary Pierce, Steffi Graf, and Jessica Pegula.

Svitolina’s latest triumph further strengthens her position as one of Ukraine’s most successful tennis players, reaffirming her status on the global stage more than a decade into her professional career.
