On February 22, 2026, the Danish government announced the allocation of an additional 3.8 billion Danish kroner (approximately €508 million) to the Ukraine Fund for 2026.

As a result, the country’s total defense spending in 2026 will reach 3.5% of GDP.

According to the Ministry of Defence, Denmark had already allocated 9.6 billion kroner to the Ukraine Fund this year. In addition, another 0.6 billion kroner is expected from the sale of F-16 fighter jets.

“Support for Ukraine’s defense also contributes to the defense of Europe and Denmark. Ukraine’s fight concerns our own security as well. Europe must not forget the Ukrainians’ struggle, and that is why it is important to me that the government proposes allocating more than 3.8 billion kroner extra to Ukraine this year. I am proud that Denmark is taking the lead here,” said Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen.

With the new 3.8 billion kroner, Denmark’s total contribution in 2026 will amount to 14 billion kroner.

According to Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen, thanks to this allocation, Denmark’s defense and security spending in 2026 will total 3.5% of GDP.

“This is the highest level in a decade, reflecting the substantial development the Armed Forces have undergone in recent years,” the Danish defense minister said.
