The number of countries ready to join the Expanded Partial Agreement on the Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression against Ukraine is growing, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said.
“We already have eight confirmations and expect more. I urge all countries to take this critical step and support accountability efforts,” Sybiha wrote on X.
He stressed that the scale of Russian atrocities during its aggression is unprecedented on European soil since World War II. The crime of aggression is their root cause.
“The Special Tribunal is a critical element of the accountability infrastructure, with the other two pillars being the Claims Commission and the Register of Damages. Tomorrow, we will mark the grim anniversary of the Bucha massacre together with EU colleagues, who will come to Ukraine. The ashes of Bucha demand justice to be restored,” Sybiha emphasized.
He noted that the Special Tribunal revives the spirit of Nuremberg Trials. Its practical launch this year is vital not only to ensure justice for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, but also to strengthen international criminal law, complement the efforts of the International Criminal Court, and prevent the recurrence of such horrific crimes in the future.
