Zaporizhkoks increased production to 670,000 tons in January–September

PJSC Zaporizhkoks (Zaporizhcoke), one of Ukraine’s largest producers of metallurgical coke, increased its production by 2.2% in January–September 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, reaching 669.7 thousand tons, according to GMK Center calculations based on company data.

In September, production fell by 3.1% compared to the previous month and by 8.1% year-on-year, to 77.1 thousand tons.

Coke imports to Ukraine rose by 6.1% year-on-year in January–August 2025, reaching 433.51 thousand tons. In August, imported coke shipments totaled 68.84 thousand tons, up 69.9% from the previous month and 6.4% compared to August 2024.

In early April, the first shipment of coking coal from the United States in 2025 arrived in Ukraine, chartered by the Metinvest Group. The bulk carrier Bison delivered 80 thousand tons of raw material from United Coal Company, located in the Appalachian region of the US. The company planned monthly imports of 80 thousand tons to support production after the Pokrovska coal group’s shutdown.

In 2024, Zaporizhkoks increased coke production by 2.1% compared to 2023, reaching 874.6 thousand tons.

Since 2022, the company has invested over UAH 360 million in major upgrades of the coke plant’s oven stock. Most of these funds were spent on overhauls of coke batteries Nos. 2 and 5–6. Recent projects include the overhaul of Coke Pusher No. 3 at Battery Nos. 5–6 and the overhaul of the U-30 charge supply line in the coal preparation shop.

Zaporizhcoke is a key producer of coke-chemical products in Ukraine and is part of the Metinvest Group. Its main customer is the Zaporizhstal metallurgical plant.
