Ukraine has received a grant of USD 690 million from Japan and Canada. The funds were provided through the G7 ERA mechanism under the World Bank’s PEACE in Ukraine programme.

This is the first tranche from Japan and the final tranche from Canada, financed under the G7 Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration (ERA) for Ukraine mechanism, with a total allocation of USD 50 billion.

The funds were transferred to Ukraine’s general state budget and will be used to finance the country’s priority expenditures, including pension payments and social support programmes for the population, such as housing and utility subsidies.

The grant funding comes from contributions by international partners:

  • USD 544 million – contribution from the Government of Japan
  • USD 146 million – contribution from Canada
  • USD 0.8 million – funds from the Multi-Donor Trust Fund of the PEACE in Ukraine project

The ERA mechanism was launched at the end of 2024. Canada’s total contribution under this initiative amounts to CAD 5 billion (almost USD 3.6 billion), of which two previous tranches of CAD 2.5 billion and CAD 2.3 billion were received by Ukraine in spring and summer 2025. Japan’s contribution to the G7 financial support mechanism for Ukraine is planned at JPY 471.9 billion (over USD 3 billion).

“I am grateful to the World Bank, as well as the governments of Japan and Canada for their grant support. Thanks to the help of our partners, we ensure macrofinancial stability and fund key expenditures. Since 2022, Japan has provided Ukraine with USD 9.5 billion in budget support, and Canada – almost USD 9 billion,” said Ukraine’s Minister of Finance, Serhiy Marchenko.

It should be recalled that on February 6, 2026, the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine and the World Bank signed an agreement on the provision of grant funds under the project “Supporting Government Expenditures to Ensure Sustainable Public Administration in Ukraine” (PEACE in Ukraine).

The PEACE in Ukraine project has been implemented since June 2022 and aims to ensure the uninterrupted execution of key government functions from the beginning of the full-scale war. The total financing mobilized under the project amounts to USD 51.7 billion.
