At the Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines, an official ceremony was held to inaugurate Ukrainian Studies within the framework of the Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies.

The event was attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Oleksandr Mishchenko, who is on a working visit to the Republic of the Philippines. The participation of the Ukrainian side in the ceremony demonstrated state support for the development of this project, the ministry added.

“The opening of Ukrainian Studies at one of the leading higher education institutions in the Philippines has become an important milestone in the development of educational and cultural ties between Ukraine and the Republic of the Philippines, and has confirmed growing interest in Ukraine within the Filipino academic community. Ukrainian Studies at Ateneo de Manila University are expected to become a sustainable platform for academic exchanges, scientific cooperation, and a deeper understanding of Ukraine in the Philippines,” the statement said.

The university is one of the oldest and most respected private higher education institutions in the Philippines.

“Given its status, value-based foundation, quality of academic programs, and international orientation, Ateneo de Manila University is a promising partner for developing Ukrainian–Philippine cooperation in education, science, cultural diplomacy, workforce training, analytical dialogue, and people-to-people contacts,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted.

The number of universities participating in the Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies in that country increased to 16.

The Global Coalition of Ukrainian Studies is a state initiative operating under the patronage of First Lady Olena Zelenska. As of March 2026, the GCU network brings together 74 members from 26 countries, and another 130 foreign institutions have expressed intent to join.
