The foreign trade turnover of agricultural and food products between Ukraine and the European Union in 2025 amounted to $15.7 billion, which is 9% lower than the previous year’s record level ($17.2 billion).
This was reported by Nikolay Pugachev, Deputy Director of the National Scientific Center “Institute of Agrarian Economics” and an academician of NAAS, according to the press service of the institute.
According to him, Ukraine’s trade balance remained positive, though it decreased to $5.9 billion.
The main European partners in sectoral trade with Ukraine last year were Poland, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, France, Romania, and Belgium. These countries accounted for about 80% of the total domestic turnover of agri-food products with the EU.
Last year, Ukraine imported agricultural products from EU member states worth about $4.914 billion, almost 15% more than the previous year.
The largest expenditures were $514 million on alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Various food products, extracts, and concentrates were purchased for $429 million, animal feed, residues, and by-products for $397 million, cocoa and chocolate products for $394 million, and tobacco products for $384 million.
A significant share (6.6%) of domestic imports from the EU in 2025 was again occupied by dairy products. These were imported 17% more than the previous year, totaling $324 million. The key product in this group was cheese, purchased for $270 million.
The volume of shipments of finished grain-based products to the Ukrainian market amounted to $304 million.
Overall, these product groups accounted for 56% of the value of food imports from the European Union.
