The Russian forces has damaged nearly 400 port infrastructure facilities. This was stated by Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction, Minister for Communities and Territories Development, Oleksii Kubela, during a working trip to the Odessa region with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on April 15.
During the trip, the President held a meeting on the security situation in the region and its socio-economic development. The focus was on the safety of the people, the protection of the sky over the region from Russian attacks, the situation with grain exports, the operation of local enterprises, and support for the people.
"Protecting port infrastructure is also crucial for us. This is an issue for Ukraine’s economy and global food security. Since the launch of the Ukrainian maritime corridor, 116 million tons of cargo have been transported. Of that, over 73 million tons of grain have been sent to Europe, Africa, and Asia. Since the summer of 2023, Russia has launched more than 500 missiles at our ports, damaging about 400 port infrastructure facilities," noted Oleksii Kubela.
Additionally, a meeting was held with entrepreneurs from the Odessa region, representing the machine engineering, instrumentation, pharmaceutical, and food industries.
According to the President of Ukraine, efforts are ongoing to strengthen the air defense shield over the Odessa region. The state is also continuously working on security guarantees, including in the sea, air, and land domains.
The attendees discussed logistics, export development, expanding economic support programs, and involving international partners in the reconstruction of destroyed industrial facilities.
