Russian airstrikes and drones target several regions, killing civilians and damaging infrastructure

Russian forces continue to carry out large-scale attacks across Ukraine, striking multiple regions and causing civilian casualties as well as widespread damage to homes and infrastructure.

In the Zaporizhzhia region, a total of 856 strikes were recorded over the past 24 hours across 45 settlements, according to regional governor Ivan Fedorov. The attacks involved airstrikes, artillery, multiple launch rocket systems, and more than 500 drones—mostly FPV types. Four people were injured in attacks on the regional center of Zaporizhzhia and surrounding areas. Authorities also received 60 reports of damage to residential buildings, vehicles, and infrastructure.

In Zaporizhzhia city itself, a late-night strike damaged six apartment buildings in two districts. Windows were shattered and balconies and roofs were partially destroyed. Emergency services, municipal crews, and police were deployed to deal with the aftermath.

In the Sumy region, Russian forces carried out an airstrike on the Shostka community on April 3 using guided aerial bombs. According to regional head Oleh Hryhorov, a 59-year-old woman was killed. Three people were injured, including relatives of the victim, and a 29-year-old woman remains in serious condition. Several private homes and a multi-story building were hit.

Earlier the same day, drones struck the city of Sumy, hitting the Kovpakivskyi district and the central part of the city. Non-residential premises and vehicles were damaged, but no casualties were reported. Authorities are still assessing the consequences.

On April 2, Russian forces shelled 29 settlements across the Sumy region. In the Hlukhiv community, a 39-year-old woman was injured in a drone attack, which also damaged a gas station building and a shop. Additional damage to residential buildings, businesses, and vehicles was reported in the Shostka, Sumy, and Bilopillia communities.

In the Kherson region, one person was killed and 18 others were injured over the past day, including a child, amid continued Russian attacks. Regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin said the strikes involved drones, airstrikes, and artillery targeting numerous settlements across the region. Damage was reported to apartment buildings, private homes, a veterinary facility, a service station, and civilian vehicles.

Separately, on the morning of April 3, a Russian drone struck a minibus in Kherson, injuring five people. All were hospitalized for medical treatment.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, Russian forces launched nearly 30 attacks overnight across four districts, using missiles, drones, and artillery. According to regional head Oleksandr Hanzha, infrastructure was damaged in several areas, including Pavlohrad and the Nikopol district, as well as residential buildings. No casualties were reported. Ukrainian air defenses shot down 11 Russian drones overnight.

In the Kharkiv region, Russian strikes on April 2 targeted the regional center and 24 other settlements, killing one person and injuring 25 others, including eight children. Regional governor Oleh Syniehubov reported that the attacks involved missiles, guided bombs, and dozens of drones.

In Kharkiv city, 11 people were injured, including elderly residents and children, among them a one-month-old baby. A 65-year-old man was killed in the village of Polova in the Solonytsivka community. Additional injuries and stress reactions were reported across multiple settlements in the region.

The attacks caused extensive damage in Kharkiv and surrounding areas, including apartment buildings, private homes, civilian enterprises, a higher education institution, a store, park infrastructure, and around 90 vehicles.

In the Donetsk region, Russian forces killed three civilians and injured 13 others on April 2, according to regional governor Vadym Filashkin. Two people were killed in Oleksiievo-Druzhkivka and one in Druzhkivka. Officials note that overall casualty figures for the region do not include occupied cities such as Mariupol and Volnovakha.

The Chernihiv region came under Russian attacks over the past 24 hours, with strikes causing fires in residential and utility buildings. In the city of Semenivka, a strike sparked a fire on the balcony of a five-story residential building. In the Chernihiv district, another attack set an outbuilding on fire. Emergency responders quickly extinguished the fires and dealt with the aftermath of the strikes. No casualties have been reported.
