As part of support for Ukraine’s reconstruction, the Polish government intends to finance the M10 highway project, which will connect the Korczowa–Krakovets border crossing with Lviv.
This was reported by the Polish media outlet Forsal.
The road will be approximately 80 km long. The route is proposed to be toll-based, which is a common practice on EU motorways. The revenues will go to the Polish state budget.
The proposed highway is seen as an extension of Poland’s A4 motorway, which ends at the border near Korczowa. Currently, many drivers choose other routes, including the Medyka crossing (20.5 km south of Korczowa), due to better infrastructure.
Polish officials had pushed for this project back in the time of Euro 2012, but it was not implemented due to a lack of funding in Ukraine. Now, financial conditions make it possible to return to the project with Polish funding.
It is planned that investments will be carried out under Polish rather than Ukrainian law. The Polish government will provide financing and appoint the structure responsible for overseeing implementation. Poland also intends to use its own contractors for construction.
The Polish side plans to collect tolls over a long period, similar to existing models on certain motorways in Poland.
A framework agreement on the route may be signed by Ukraine and Poland during the “Ukraine Recovery” conference, which will take place on June 25–26 in Gdańsk, Poland.
