Latvia and Ukraine have moved towards the practical implementation of the Drone Deal in the months since it was signed and are currently working on three specific areas.
Latvian Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs said this at the Ukraine–Nordic-Baltic Eight summit.
The Latvian prime minister noted that the two countries have moved from the agreement to practical steps.
“The first step is that, together with President Zelensky, we need to agree on a ‘green corridor’ for specific Ukrainian companies so that they can provide their technologies,” Kulbergs said.
The second step is the establishment of production facilities, he added.
“We already have three specific companies that have signed memoranda of understanding and are ready to begin establishing production facilities this year in cooperation with Latvian industry,” the Latvian prime minister said.
According to him, the projects will be implemented using relevant funding as well as the loan provided by the EU to Ukraine.
Kulbergs also said that Ukrainian specialists had visited Latvia to assess the country’s counter-drone capabilities.
“We have identified specific equipment that we lack in order to develop these capabilities in line with Ukrainian standards, and now we need to discuss how to obtain the necessary equipment and accelerate its delivery to Latvia so that we can build the best possible capabilities to protect our skies from drones,” the prime minister said.
He added that these are “the three specific steps we are currently taking.”
